Jennifer Abessira
Jennifer Abessira (b.1984, Paris, immigrated to Israel in 1991; lives and works between Tel Aviv and Paris) holds an MFA from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, studied for an MA in Interdisciplinary Arts and a BA in General History and French Literature at the Tel Aviv University.
Abessira’s work has featured in solo exhibitions and special projects including at the Ariella Public Library, Tel Aviv; Institut Français, Tel Aviv; Artists’ House, Tel Aviv; St. James Market in London; Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne. She has also participated in group exhibitions, including at the La Galerie Rouge, Paris; London City Hall; Artists Residence, Herzliya; Galerie Agathe Gaillard, Paris; Soho Revue, London; and the Bat Yam Museum of Art - Moby.
Abessira refers to herself as an “image creator”. She uses her impulsive observation to document, sort, classify what she sees, remembers and experiences, while relating it to her personal and immense visual archive. She shares her life (without giving up on her privacy), her intimate surroundings, family members, lovers and trips, wrapped into a nostalgic visual journal.
Her projects comprise original hashtags she invents, like anchors which sort her thoughts, perceptions and occurrences, turning them into an ever changing index. Portrait photo by Julien Donada; artworks photos courtesy of Jennifer Abessira studio.
