Hilla Spitzer
Hilla Spitzer (b. 1985, Tel Aviv; lives and works in Tel Aviv) holds an MFA and a BFA from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. Her work has featured in select solo exhibitions, including at the Haifa Museum of Art; Rosenfeld Galley (Project Room), Tel Aviv; Minshar Academy Gallery, Tel Aviv; and Ben Gurion University Art Gallery, Beer Sheva. She has participated in group exhibitions at the Haifa Museum of Art; the Hashmonaim Museum, Modi’in; De Vishal Gallery, Harlem, Netherlands; the Drawing Biennale in Jerusalem; the Ashdod Museum of Art, and elsewhere.
Spitzer explores the process of the painting itself through fragments that make up the entire imagery, much like the traditional piece-by-piece method of painting. In a slow, exploratory and intuitive process, she builds the sections that make up the pictorial image. The fragmentation is evident not only in the actual parts of the work, but also in its content, portraying a street, light changing through the day, a road, or her studio—all parts of a never-ending journey.
